Eye Health

The Eye Clinic at St. Joseph’s Health Centre provides a valuable health service for our west end neighbours.  The ophthalmologist in the Eye Clinic test, diagnose and treat a variety of eye diseases – disease that can dramatically change a person’s life if left untreated.

Your help is urgently needed to fund new equipment such as an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine. An OCT can detect the early signs of glaucoma so that sight-saving treatment can begin.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. It’s known as the “silent thief of sight” because it doesn’t cause any symptoms until very late in the disease.

They eye clinic also needs an additional slit lamp. A slit lamp is an essential part of every eye examination. It’s needed to diagnose, treat and follow every patient that comes to the Health Centre for eye care.

Without this equipment, patients need to travel to Mississauga or downtown to get access to care that we could provide here with your help.
