The Geoffrey H. Wood Foundation just helped keep the Promise

The legacy of one of our west-end neighbours lives on. The late G.H. Wood lived in west Toronto, and from there he built the G.H. Wood & Company Limited. He was innovative and cared for this community. Now his legacy will help double the number of women we screen for breast cancer in a new one-stop location for breast cancer screening and treatment.

On October 20th, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Foundation leadership, physicians and staff celebrated the $1.5 million gift and the opening of the first phase of The Geoffrey H. Wood Foundation Centre of Excellence in Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment. The full centre will open in 2018.

This new centre will offer one-stop care for women wondering if they have breast cancer. Women will no longer wait up to six weeks for a diagnosis and treatment plan if they need one. They will come to one location for a screening and diagnosis, see the specialists they need and leave with a treatment plan if they need one the same day.

Thanks to the generosity of The Geoffrey H. Wood Foundation and other donors, more than $2.8 million has been raised to build The Geoffrey H. Wood Foundation Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment Centre. The new centre will double its current size and includes a second mammogram machine so radiologists can do 6,000 screenings annually instead of 3,000.
