Know the facts during World Glaucoma Week

Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. It’s known as the “silent thief of sight” because it doesn’t cause any symptoms until very late in the disease. You could have glaucoma right now and not know it.

In the U.S., more than 2.7 million individuals aged 40 or older are affected by glaucoma – that’s approximately 1.9 percent of the population!

For the population of Toronto, the reality is much higher.  According to the Toronto Epidemiology Glaucoma Survey, undetected cases of glaucoma in Toronto consists of 3.9% of the population.  As an asymptomatic disease, the importance of getting tested for glaucoma regularly can make all the difference in maintaining your eyesight.
