Lauren’s Lounge

Lauren’s Lounge provides people with mental illness a safe and calming lounge while they are in our care. The lounge includes comfortable seating, a dining space, and beautiful artwork for a welcoming environment.

Chair of the St. Joe’s Plate Mary Anne De Monte-Whelan, one of the founders of the St. Joe’s Plate, says her commitment to St. Joe’s changed when her 19-year-old niece took her own life to end her suffering from mental illness. “A friend and I had started the small event to St. Joe’s,” she says. “After Lauren died, with the focus on mental health, the event gained significant momentum and this lounge was named to honour her memory.”

For the opening of Lauren’s Lounge in 2017, Mary Anne was joined by Linda D’Eon, Lauren’s mother, who is also a member of the St. Joe’s Plate Committee. They, along with a group of passionate volunteers, have now raised more than $2.6 million.
