We need extraordinary tools

To be an extraordinary hospital, we need extraordinary tools

The best equipment and technology aren’t extras—they’re essentials. They power innovation, speed up diagnosis, and give our teams what they need to deliver the highest standard of care.

Despite what many think, the government does not provide funding for most of the advanced equipment hospitals depend on, so we rely on donors to help.

Your gift today will have an immediate impact—putting vital equipment into the hands of our care teams so they can diagnose faster, treat sooner, and deliver the safest, highest standard of care for every patient.

Beds that ensure comfort, safety and reduce bed sores

Patient beds are a staple in every hospital room at St. Joe’s. They are needed in every unit, regardless of the patient’s condition. Each bed includes electric height and positioning controls, sturdy side rails, and therapeutic mattresses designed to relieve pressure and prevent painful bedsores. These features keep patients comfortable, protect their skin, and help them heal with dignity.

Adjustable beds also let caregivers reposition patients safely, reducing strain and allowing them to focus on delivering hands-on, compassionate care. With the right beds in every unit, patients can rest, heal, and recover in safety and comfort.

Each bed costs $16,500 ($8,700 for the specialized frame and $7,800 for the therapeutic mattress). A gift of $181,500 will provide all 12 frames and 10 mattresses—giving every patient the comfort, safety, and dignity they deserve while supporting our caregivers in delivering compassionate care.

Warmers that help babies thrive

Our NICU urgently need 14 additional Panda Warmers to protect fragile newborns.

Panda Warmers provide radiant heating for infants that maintain newborn body temperature, provide easy access for critical procedures, and monitor vital signs continuously—essential for infants in the NICU who are premature, underweight, or facing other medical challenges.

St. Joe’s NICU is committed to giving every baby the best chance to thrive, but updated equipment is urgently needed to support this life-saving care.

Your gift of $50,000 will purchase one Panda Warmer. A gift of $700,000 will replace all units, ensuring all our smallest patients receive the safest, most advanced care from the moment they arrive.

Minature life-support isolettes for our tiniest patients

Our NICU urgently needs to replace 22 isolettes to give vulnerable newborns the safest possible start.

These specialized incubators create a stable, protected environment that helps premature and fragile babies regulate their temperature, conserve energy, and grow.

Modern isolettes also support both clinical care and family connection — with quiet operation, easy access for parents and staff, and features that allow for safe skin-to-skin bonding while maintaining temperature stability.

A gift of $44,000 replaces one isolette, and $968,000 replaces all 22 — directly supporting our tiniest patients when they need it most.

Monitors that keep babies safe, catching every critical moment

Twenty-two new monitors are needed to give fragile infants the best chance to thrive.

The NICU is designed not only for the highest level of medical care but also for families. Our 24-hour family lounge and ‘Care by Parent’ rooms let parents stay close, bond, and be part of their baby’s care, supporting a smooth transition home.

Behind the scenes, central monitoring systems watch every vital sign in real time—heart rate, oxygen levels, respiratory patterns, and blood pressure—alerting staff immediately if a baby’s condition changes. Together with family-centered spaces, this technology lets parents be near their child with confidence, knowing their baby is safe and receiving the best care possible. Our current monitors are at end-of-life.

Our current monitors are at end-of-life. Your gift of $36,000 will replace one monitor, helping ensure every baby in the NICU benefits from this life-saving technology and family-centered care. A gift of $792,000 will replace the entire fleet, giving fragile infants the best chance to thrive while supporting parent’s peace of mind in those critical first days.

An additional ECG to keep emergency care moving

One additional ECG is needed to ensure every patient in the Emergency Department is assessed quickly and safely.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a fast, non-invasive test that shows how a patient’s heart is functioning in real time. It is one of the first tools clinicians use to diagnose heart attacks, arrhythmias, and other urgent cardiac issues—often within minutes of a patient’s arrival.

At St. Joe’s, the Emergency Department sees more than 240 patients every day, and the need for rapid cardiac assessment continues to grow. For more than seven years, adding another ECG machine has been identified as a priority to improve flow and reduce delays.

By adding a second ECG machine, we can shorten wait times, relieve pressure on emergency staff, and ensure patients receive the timely, potentially life-saving assessment they need—no matter how busy the department becomes.

The cost to add this long-awaited piece of equipment is $25,000. Your gift will immediately strengthen emergency care for the families, neighbours, and loved ones who rely on us every day.

Scanners that protect patients and prevent complications

Our Emergency urgently needs a bladder scanner to support safe, effective patient care.

Bladder scanners are specialized devices that measure the amount of urine in the bladder, helping prevent urinary retention, bladder damage, kidney injury, and catheter-associated infections.

Scanners help reduce avoidable catheterization, improving patient comfort and experience. It also enhances staff satisfaction and efficiency, freeing healthcare teams from unnecessary procedures so they can focus on delivering high-quality care.

Your gift of $23,000 will equip our Emergency Department with another, urgently needed bladder scanner so our patients receive the safest, most accurate, and most comfortable care possible.

New exam lights to support safe, accurate care

Our Emergency Department needs 36 new exam lights to give every patient the safest, most accurate assessment possible.

Exam lights are bright, focused, adjustable lights that help clinicians see clearly during medical assessments and procedures. They illuminate wounds, infections, rashes, and other conditions that require close, accurate examination—making them essential tools in every Emergency Department room.

Across all areas of our Emergency, except for the new Yellow Zone, the current exam lights are at the end of their service life. Replacement parts are no longer available for these older models, meaning they can’t be repaired once they fail. As a result, clinicians are increasingly relying on outdated fixtures that no longer provide the clarity or reliability needed in urgent situations.

With more than 240 patient visits every day, dependable lighting is critical. New exam lights offer bright, shadow-free illumination that helps staff work quickly and precisely—supporting safer care, faster decisions, and better outcomes.

Your gift of…
$8,000 can fund one new exam light, giving clinicians the clarity they need to assess and treat patients safely.
$24,000 can provide three exam lights, upgrading multiple rooms and improving care across the department.
$80,000 can replace ten exam lights, transforming the reliability and precision of emergency care for our community.
