Compassionate care at St. Joe’s helped Hannah heal
At St. Joseph’s Health Centre, we understand that mental healthcare isn’t just about providing treatment; it’s about offering compassion, support, and a safe environment for healing. Hannah, a former patient, who first received care at St. Joe’s as a teenager, shares her experience of finding hope and strength during a challenging time in her life.
“I had been cutting myself, and before coming to St. Joe’s for the first time, I had gone to my guidance counselor.” This was the beginning of her journey, as her guidance counselor recommended that her parents take her to St. Joe’s for care. Admitted to the youth facility, she received treatment and support that helped her begin her journey toward recovery.
Reflecting on her first night at St. Joe’s, she recalls, “I felt so alone when I was admitted, but the nurse who stayed with me that night made all the difference. I was able to sleep because of her.” These small but profound moments of care helped her feel safe and supported, setting the stage for the healing process. “Whenever I think back to the time I spent here I always feel grateful. I felt safe.”
This journey of healing wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our generous donors. Thanks to the support of our community, St. Joe’s has one of the most comprehensive mental health programs in Ontario—caring for nearly 70,000 patients each year. Donors have helped expand emergency mental health services, build new units for transitional age youth, and bring new treatments like rTMS to our community.
