You can help bring lifesaving equipment close to home
Imagine being in an emergency where every second matters, and breathing is no longer something you can do on your own. At St. Joe’s, we’re here to provide the life-saving care you and your neighbours need, equipped with advanced technology like glidescopes—tools that make life’s next breath possible.
But today, we need your help. Two of the glidescopes in our Emergency Department, essential for keeping airways open and saving lives, are reaching the end of their service life. Replacing them is urgent. These state-of-the-art tools guide a tube into airways with real-time video, ensuring safe and effective treatment even in the most critical situations.
When seconds count, glidescopes give our healthcare teams the tools they need to act quickly and save lives.
“As a caregiver at St. Joe’s, I’ve seen the life-changing difference this equipment makes” says Dr. Raghu Venugopal, Physician, Emergency Department. “Every breath we help restore is a moment of relief, gratitude, and hope”.
This giving Tuesday your generosity has the power to save lives—twice over.
When you give before Giving Tuesday on December 3rd, your west-end neighbour, Randy Cousins, will match your gift dollar-for-dollar for up to $50,000. That means every $1 you donate becomes $2, bringing lifesaving equipment even closer to reality.
Randy is a past Foundation Board Member and a generous donor to St. Joe’s, giving every year for over 20 years! His philanthropy has always been focused on caring for his community. “I’ve called the west-end my home for nearly 40 years. Just like you, St. Joe’s is my community hospital, which is why I support it and hope you will, too”.
This holiday season make an extraordinary impact at St. Joe’s.
Donate nowYour gift today will meet our community’s most urgent healthcare needs — bringing state-of-the-art new equipment to St. Joe’s Emergency Department and all hospital areas, like:
- Glidescope (2 replacements): If you can’t breathe, a glidescope will save your life. It guides a tube into your mouth or nose so air can reach your lungs. It provides a real-time video view of your airway and tube placement and is designed even for the most damaged airways.
- ECG machine (1 new): If your heart’s beating too fast or skipping beats, and you’re feeling dizzy or have chest pain or shortness of breath, an ECG machine can help diagnose the problem. Used over 200 times per day, a new machine is urgently needed in the Emergency Department and other care areas.
- Exam Lights (replacement, 36 units): Did you know that the right lighting can help you get better results during a medical exam? The current lights throughout many parts of the Emergency Department are at the end of their service life. Replacement parts aren’t even available for these older lights, so they can’t be repaired once they break down.
