Building Extraordinary Together: Luke Gilgan

Luke Gilgan believes in the importance of strong, local healthcare and in doing what he can to help shape its future.

As a supporter of St. Joseph’s Health Centre, he’s seen firsthand how the hospital has grown to meet the needs of the West End. Now, as a Foundation ambassador, Luke is helping drive support for the new patient tower, a once-in-a-generation investment in care.

That commitment was on full display during this year’s Cycle for St. Joe’s, where Luke joined hundreds of riders at the Matamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, riding alongside doctors, nurses, and fellow community members. “It’s incredible to watch how the event continues to grow,” he said. “People are attracted by the ride, but also by the hospital itself. They can really see and take part in having a big impact.”

Luke rode with physicians and other healthcare workers, soaking in the energy of the morning. “They had smiles ear to ear,” he shared. “It’s wonderful to see so many supporters of the hospital come together, it really shows the strength of the community.”

While events like Cycle for St. Joe’s bring people together, Luke sees them as part of a much bigger picture. “It’s important to focus on future generations,” he explained. “Opportunities to transform a facility like this don’t come around very often.” He points to thoughtful planning around sustainability, infection control, and private rooms as examples of how the new tower will shape care for decades to come.

Luke also appreciates the role donors play in making this vision a reality. “It’s so meaningful to see people set aside time and financial resources, to ask their friends, family, and co-workers to support them on the ride,” he said. “Every dollar counts, and I know the hospital will use it very well.”

For him, supporting St. Joe’s is deeply personal.

“This is my local community hospital. When you need care, you need it close to home. I’m proud to do what I can to rally support for this project — it’s a long journey ahead, but the future is bright.”

As an ambassador, Luke is lending his voice, energy, and influence to inspire others to join the effort. His involvement spans riding, fundraising, and championing the hospital in the community all to ensure that the new patient tower meets the needs of patients, families, and future generations.

“I ride for the west end of the city and all those who need care,” he said with a smile. “Together, we will Build Extraordinary.”
