Dr. Maria De Villa is a cardiologist who spent more than forty years caring for patients at St. Joe’s, including ten years as Chief of Cardiology. For her, leaving a gift in her Will was a way to give back to the community that matters to her, and an opportunity to help shape the future.
“Over time, the hospital became woven into every part of my life. It was where I spent my days caring for patients, and where my family put down roots. My children grew up in the Etobicoke community around St. Joe’s, and years later, my grandchildren would be born there, deepening that connection in ways I could never have imagined. And when my husband became ill and required dialysis and intensive care, St. Joe’s was there. When I retired in 2020, I stepped away from a career that had shaped me for more than four decades and took time to reflect on the places and people who had carried me through that journey—and the meaning of giving back became very clear. There are exciting plans underway for a new patient care tower that will transform how care is delivered in our community. When I think about the families who will walk through those doors in the years ahead, I feel hopeful. My gift is meant to help make that future possible—so that the spirit of care I experienced continues for the next generation.”- Dr. Maria De Villa, ST. Joe’s Society Donor, former Chief of Cardiology, St. Joe’s
For me, leaving a gift in my estate is a way of giving back to this community that has mattered so much to me, and ensuring that St. Joe’s can continue to grow for future generations of patients and families. – Dr. Maria De Villa
