One of the most common diseases affecting people in Canada is heart disease. At St. Joseph’s Health Centre, our experienced team of cardiologists and cardiac diagnostic technicians provide our west end neighbours with a full range of heart health services, close to home.
Our cardiologists diagnose and manage a wide range of cardiovascular diseases including:

- Heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias)

Every year, the Cardiology Department receives more than 11,000 visits and we perform more than 45,000 heart health tests.
Local business owner sees the need to help
Cardiac testing requires equipment, equipment that isn’t always paid for by government funding. Adrian Ruzycky, owner of Pizzeria Defina on Roncesvalles, has raised thousands of dollars for St. Joe’s cardiology department in honour of his son Luka who died of a heart-related condition at the young age of 18.
Thanks to Adrian and the many people who supported his fund-raising initiative, St. Joe’s was able to buy an additional echocardiogram and increase the number of test provided by 43%. Adrian, his family and friends also funded a new ergonomic echo cardiology bed that enables patients to be better positioned for more effective testing.
