UTI-Phage research

Phage Therapy is an innovative treatment approach that uses bacteriophages (viruses that target specific bacterial strains) to combat bacterial infections. This therapy has shown great promise in the treatment of chronic UTIs, with studies demonstrating high success rates and a lower risk of antibiotic resistance.

At St Joe’s, we are proud to have Dr. Gregory German leading our research and development efforts in the field of Phage Therapy for UTIs. Dr. German is Canada’s go to expert and organizer on Phage Therapy and patients come from other provinces for consultations in his clinic. He did a PhD in microbiology on Phage biology from Arizona State University and then went to medical school and medical microbiology training at the university of Ottawa allowing him to be an expert in testing, diagnosing, and treating infections. Dr. German has a chronic infection and Phage Therapy research clinic and has received Unity Health Toronto’s funding to develop rapid methods to inform which phages have the highest chance of success.

Under Dr. German’s leadership, our research team has made significant strides in understanding how Phage Therapy can be used to treat chronic UTIs. We are currently conducting clinical trials to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Phage Therapy for UTIs, and early results are promising. However, our work is far from done, and we need your support to continue our research and development efforts. By making a donation to St Joe’s, you can help us bring Phage Therapy to the forefront of UTI treatment and provide relief to millions of people suffering from chronic UTIs.
